EXON de La Torre INTERVIEW
1. INTRODUCE YOURSELF .
My name is Exon de la Torre, I'm 30 years old and originally from Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico, but I've been living in Toronto, Canada, for the past eight years. I'm a content creator and a passionate collector of football cards, stickers, and albums. Before becoming a creator, I was an avid viewer of collector videos, which inspired and motivated me to develop creative ideas for my platform. I enjoy sharing the latest collections with my followers, connecting with them through my passion for this fascinating hobby.
2. WHEN DID YOU START COLLECTING AND HOW/WHY?
I started collecting in 2006, during the FIFA World Cup in Germany. That was the year I got my first album, although I wasn't able to complete it since my family couldn't afford a full box of stickers. Still, it was my first real introduction to football collecting. Before that, I used to collect Pokémon and Dragon Ball Z tazos (pogs, kaps) as well as Sabritas (lays) wrappers and any other promotional items from that time. I was inspired to start collecting because my best friend's older brother was a collector.
3. WHAT ARE YOUR MOST VALUABLE ITEMS ?
I'm not entirely sure what the most valuable item in my collection is, but it could be a 1/1 sticker of Keylor Navas from the 2024 Copa América collection. I don't know its exact price, but it's likely one of the most expensive items I own. However, beyond monetary value, the item I cherish the most is a Frank Lampard sticker from the 2006 World Cup. At that time, he was my favourite player, and it was the first sticker I truly wanted with all my heart. That sticker takes me back to some of the happiest moments of my life. Even though I know it's likely not worth much in monetary terms, that's not what I seek in collecting, it's about the memories and the joy these items bring to my life
4. HOW MUCH DO YOU SPEND IN STICKERS/CARDS WEEKLY/MONTHLY/YEARLY ?
I'd love to say I hardly spend anything, but that would be a lie. On average, I spend around $300 a month. Sometimes I spend more, sometimes less, but I try to stick to that limit as much as possible. It's a balanced approach that allows me to keep up with new collections without going overboard.
5. WHICH TEAM DO YOU SUPPORT ?
My favourite team since I was a kid is Santos Laguna, the club from my hometown, Torreón, Coahuila. Over the years, many great players have been part of this team, and we've won the Mexican league championship six times. As for European football, I'm a Barcelona supporter, but when I was younger, I was a big fan of Chelsea because Frank Lampard played there, and he was my favourite player at the time.
6. NAME YOUR FAVOURITE INSTAGRAM, TIK TOK AND X(TWITTER) ACCOUNTS, BESIDES YOURS !
There are so many accounts I truly enjoy and have learned a lot from. If I had to name a few, I'd say: colecciones_Argentina, byjuanca10, Davileti9, Tacotemx, GScollects, izrabreton, lozacards, rosegol_colecciones, vero colector, Coffee with Cards, Pato Collector, La Vitrina del Futbol, and Arraizfutbolcollector, just to mention a few. My apologies if I leave anyone out, but there are so many amazing people I follow that it would be impossible to list them all!
7. HOW DO YOU SEE THE FUTURE OF THE "HOBBY" ?
The future of the hobby is uncertain. Recently, I've noticed that many people are joining, but often with the sole purpose of making a profit. It feels like more and more people are in it for the money rather than for the joy of collecting. That said, the hobby has seen significant growth in recent years, and it's amazing to see new people getting into collecting, especially thanks to the contributions of everyone who's part of the community. Let's hope the future of collecting continues to improve. With the 2026 World Cup coming up, it's bound to be a turning point for the hobby, marking a before-and-after moment in its history.
8. DID YOU EVER TAKE PART IN ANY FOOTBALL STICKERS/CARDS FAIR ? IF YES, WHICH ONE ? DO YOU HAVE A FAIR YOU REALLY WANT TO GO TO ?
I've only attended a couple of card shows , both here in Toronto. One of them is the Sports Card Expo Toronto, which is one of the largest in the world, and the other is the Northern Soccer Card Expo. Both have been amazing experiences.
9. WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE BRAND (PANINI/TOPPS/UPPER DECK/ETC.) ? AND COLLECTION
Definitely Panini. I think it's been such a big part of our childhoods, and in my opinion, it has always had the best designs and quality. That said, when it comes to trading cards, I have to give credit to Topps they do an excellent job in that area. Both brands have their strengths, and each brings something special to the hobby.
10. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF STICKERSONE.COM ?
StickerOne.com is an amazing tool for collectors. It's easy to use, helps you track your collection, and makes trading simple. Plus, it connects you with collectors worldwide. Highly recommended!
