How we evaluate items
One of the biggest challenges for collectors and for the collectibles world in general, it’s the evaluation of their item stickers and cards.
Through careful studies of the market dynamics and the unwritten rules of online trading, Stickersone.com has developed an algorithm called "PELOTA"
that helps collectors a better understanding of their items portfolio and its potential earnings/value.
The algorithm is available to subscribers to the site and is one of the services provided to users when viewing stickers, cards, and checklists on our site.
The proposed ratings will be displayed not only in the checklist in a dedicated column
But also on each individual sticker displayed:
How does the "PELOTA" algorithm work? How accurate is it?
The "PELOTA" algorithm is based on a large number of parameters related to both the player's importance and the type of sticker or card in question. Most websites today offer valuations based on sales.
It's certainly a metric worth considering, but it's very limited, both by the historical period it refers to and by the fact that the value of an item sold doesn't always correspond (by excess or, above all, by deficiency) to its actual or ideal value.
But is there really a REAL value?
Actually, no, or rather, there's definitely a value dictated by a series of factors such as the player's performance, his personal and/or team record...
Another very important factor to consider is the so-called HYPE, which is when a player is in a particularly good state of performance (goals, assists, appearances, wins, consistent performance, etc.) or when he is transferred to a more successful club, which increases his "IMMEDIATE" value on various trading sites.
"PELOTA" tries to provide an evaluation based on the rarity of the sticker or card under consideration, proposing a value that also takes hype into account. Our team pays close attention to market developments, global competitions and players potential, especially in relation to editorial releases.
Let's take a current example: the footballer JOAO FELIX, a great but somewhat unexpressed talent.
These are his rookies (or one of his rookies, given that the publications of stickers and cards are now very copious) – FUTEBOL 2018-2019 Portugal Collection.
When this player first began to gain attention, his rookie price reached €200/250 (ungraded).
Today, given the player's decline in performance, our "PELOTA" algorithm values his rookie price at €10.80.
Our evaluation takes into account the fact that the player has not fully expressed the potential that industry experts imagined. The historical period, as discussed previously, is therefore decisive in the final evaluation.
If we were to consider only the "sold" players value, however, we would likely obtain a much higher valuation, unless we significantly narrow the time frame considered. We are able to train our algorithm also based on the aforementioned evaluation.
The variant that ultimately changes everything is the issue of grading.
It is clear that in that case, the raw evaluation performed by "PELOTA" can differ significantly. When a sticker or card is graded, the actual value changes based on WHO grades and the numerical value assigned to the item (from 1 to 10 based on the overall condition).
Our algorithm is unaffected by this consideration.
Considering its "intelligence", the algorithm is constantly evolving. Thanks to users reports, which can be made for each individual sticker or card, and to the work of our team, we are continually improving them to provide data that is a true reference point for online trading and collecting in general.
The algorithm learns dynamically, acquiring as much information as possible about each individual sticker/card.
You can report a specific value for each sticker/card:
Or report ALL stickers/cards of a specific player if you believe the evaluation is too low or too high:
Our team of passionate collaborators will review the reports to carry out the appropriate checks and, if necessary, propose new values.
The price of the "PELOTA" algorithm evaluation service is €29.90 per year.
You can find the registration here.
We thank all our collaborators who, out of pure passion, help us continually improving the player ratings and careers images.
It's a monumental task that will never end and will always evolve.
